Introducing Points Of You

I was back in Lisbon this weekend. As the weather gets cold in London, it’s always good to go away for a short break and prolong the summer. But this time it wasn’t for the usual reasons of family and friends.

A good mate of mine works in corporate training and also a coach. He had showed me one of his new toolkits a few months ago, and when he told me he was going to train others to use it, I signed up on the spot.

‘Points Of You ‘is an interesting concept in its own name. Reading it aloud sounds like it would have a different spelling, and that’s exactly what the methodology itself does. It’s not as confusing as it sounds, I promise.

The tool uses different cards, some with photos, others with words. There are different ways of using them, depending on their purpose, but they all use some sort of associative mental engine. It’s easy to see why I would be interested…

Our mind uses imaging constantly. It can attract good feelings, or merely things we need to remember. In our conscious self, we also think in words and numbers, organising thoughts in categories and giving them descriptions. It is even recognised in the art world as an important factor.

The Points of You cards work by exploring the link between images, words and thoughts. And by shedding light onto different points of view to explore, hence the name of the methodology. In other words, it is a way of pulling the subconscious mind into the conversation.

During my own training, I was challenged to explore different ways of thinking to the problems or questions I wanted support with. Considering I am not always good expressing my emotions (which is ironic, I know), using such a creative way to think about things definitely worked.

I am looking forward to use this with my clients. I’ll be posting more about this but if you want to learn more about it, check their website
